Is Waist Training Safe?
This is a tough one to answer and you will get varying opinions from either side of the spectrum. Here at FHL, we err on the side of natural and prefer to shape our midsection via cardio, sit-ups and yoga. However, we are not necessarily opposed to waist training. Waist training can be miraculous for improving posture and ridding the midsection of water weight. However, moderation to us is key.
That all being said, in order to mitigate injury, it is imperative to listen to your body. Suffocating your midsection is not the answer! Start slow and work your way up. If the waist trainer feels tight, then your body is telling you to loosen it. If you don’t loosen it, your body will respond. And that response is something you don’t want to deal with.
This is one instance where, no pain – no gain does not apply. Of number one importance, there are ribs and organs involved.
In addition, some people will advise that you do not work out with a waist trainer unless you need lumbar support. The reason being, when working out with a waist trainer, your abs don’t have the ability to breathe or create movement. Therefore, your muscles won’t be able to develop accordingly.
It is very possible though, to use the waist trainer for cardio so you sweat out the water weight while doing sit-ups without the trainer to maintain muscle definition in your abs. This, perhaps, is the best case scenario if you decide to waist train.
Does Waist Training Really Work?
The short answer, yes. However, the results vary. Furthermore, the results are temporary. The best results are noticed when you are actually wearing the waist trainer. Or, you have worn it for long enough to sweat out all of your water weight. But, without constant maintenance, your waist will shape right back to where it was.
