Best Hot Air Brush

Best Hot Air Brush for Every Hair Type

Since stick-straight hair is so yesterday, we’ve been slowly making the switch to a fuller, more blown-out hair-do.  Therefore, we were on the lookout for Best Hot Air Brush.

And this is because, we just dusted off our decade-old hot air brush and took it for a spin.

First of all, this thing was ancient!  The bristles were warped.  The cord kept getting in the way.  And, our hair!  It kept getting stuck.  Over and over again.

Best Hot Air Brush

So, we really needed a new and technologically-improved hot air brush.  And, for the safety and longevity of our hair, this was an absolute priority.

But, what exactly did we need in a hot air brush?

First of all, we wanted our hair to stop getting stuck.

For this reason, we read through a gazillion reviews and found some of the best hot air brush contenders that would save us from such a tangled mess.

We immediately disqualified brushes in which users complained of getting their hair stuck.  We’re not taking chances here.

We noted the special features of each brush.  Such as, a curl-release or a particular type of bristle.  Anything that would help prevent or aid us if our hair gets trapped.  Because there’s no such thing as having too many options when your hair is in distress.

Next, we are huge fans of ionic hairdryers.  From blow dryers to flat irons to curling irons, this only adds more shine and more luster to our hair.

Furthermore, ionic devices also help prevent a lot of damage we would otherwise be doing with non-ionic products.  Not to mention, ions dry the hair faster.

Finally, we needed to take care of the cord issue.

There’s nothing like styling your hair and having to worry about your hands getting in the way, an elbow getting in the way or your head getting in the way while having to deal with an annoying cord.

So, not only were we looking for a tangle-free brush, but a tangle-free cord.

Now, we are aware that hot air brushes are not a one-size-fits-all type of deal.  So, as closely-based on our requirements as possible, we found the best hot air brush for just about every hair type.  Here are the categories we chose:

  • Long Hair
  • Fine Hair
  • Short Hair
  • Curly Hair
  • Thick Hair
  • All Hair

Not all of our picks met the requirements we laid out.  As the song goes, “you can’t always get what you want.”  However, after thoroughly reviewing and relying on actual customer reviews, these hot air brushes are tried and true and have been rated the best in their class.

Revlon One Step Hair Dryer and Volumizer – Long HairRevlon One-Step Hair Dryer & Volumizer

We have long hair so this was the hot hair brush we choose for ourselves.  And, we couldn’t be happier.

First off, this is different than any other hot air brush we’ve used.  It has an oval brush design, which smoothes the hair while the rounded edges help to create volume.  Revlon One-Step Hair Dryer & Volumizer

However, this isn’t the most voluminous hot air brush.  It’s best used for smoothing out frizziness and creating a small amount of volume.  Depending on what you’re looking for, this could be a deal breaker or the best thing since toasters.

But, what we’re most happy about is the actual bristles of the brush.  It latches onto our hair perfectly and our hair doesn’t get stuck.  And this was probably one of the most important aspects we were looking for in a hot air brush.

The Revlon One Step Hair Dryer and Volumizer is extremely powerful.  Shockingly so.  And, it’s a little loud but at least you know it’s working.

The barrel heats up, to your choice of hot or warm, within a minute.  There is also a cool setting to set your style.  The Revlon hot air brush is about 7 inches long and boasts a two inch barrel.  Therefore, this is great for long hair or long and curly hair.

Revlon One-Step Hair Dryer & VolumizerBecause of the size of the barrel, if you have hair above your shoulders, you would do better with one of the other options for best hot air brush.

Another thing we loved about this hot air brush is the handle.  It’s large but allows for an easy grip.  And, it is designed in such a way that we can use either hand to operate.

The one requirement this brush didn’t meet was having a tangle-free cord.  However, we haven’t had any issues with the cord getting in the way so, maybe it is tangle-free.

Lastly, this is an ionic hot air brush with a ceramic finish.  Which means, it will add shine and promote health, while drying our hair at lightning speed.

Vidal Sasson Hot Air Brush Styler – Short Hair

Vidal Sasson Hot Air Brush

Calling all pixies!  This is by far, the best hot air brush for short hair.

There are many reasons for our decision, but one of the more important reasons is its ability to lock in your while styling.

The barrel has a switch that will lock your hair in place, which is crucial when you have short hair.  Sometimes bristles don’t quite do the job and this is one added bonus to ensure you latch your hair onto the brush.

And once your hair is done, you unlock the switch to release.

The Vidal Sasson Hot Air Brush Styler comes with a 1 inch barrel and boasts soft, tangle-free bristles.

On the very end of the barrel, there is a tip that stays cool so you don’t burn yourself.  Something that happens way too often with short hair and heating devices.

There are two heat settings, high and low.  If you happen to be looking for a cool setting, you may want to try the John Frieda Hot Air Brush.  That brush is an excellent brush and will also work great with short hair.

Finally, this hot air brush is neither ionic nor ceramic.  It is unfortunate that they didn’t, at the very least, construct this brush with ionic technology.

However, it will have to come down to what is most important to you and what you need in a hot air brush.  If a hair latch is your priority, this is the best option for short hair.  If ionic technology is your priority, then the John Frieda or the Calista is the next best option for short hair.

Calista Pro Ionic Hot BrushAll-rounder

Calista Tools Pro Grip Digital Temp Control Ionic Round Hot Brush with Bag, Navy, 1.5-Inch

This particular hot air brush was created with all hair types in mind.  So, this is a great choice for anyone, really.

First of all, the brush comes in your choice of 1 inch or 1.5 inch.  If you have short hair, we definitely recommend the smaller brush.  If you have longer hair, we recommend the larger brush. In addition, the brush is different than your typical hot air brush.  It has thick plastic bristles which help prevent tangles.  And, these bristles make it easy to glide the brush through your hair.  Calista Tools Pro Grip Digital Temp Control Ionic Round Hot Brush with Bag, Navy, 1.5-Inch

The Calista Pro Ionic Hot Brush comes with dual heat technology:  ionic and ceramic.  The ions will promote shine and volume while the ceramic will protect your hair from the heat. What sets this hot air brush apart from the others is it has a digital LCD screen in which you can set the temperature yourself.  The range is from 325-395 fahrenheit.  For thinner hair, it is recommended that you go with a lower temperature while thicker-haired users should go with a higher temperature.  It takes approximately 3 minutes for the brush to heat up.

After about an hour, the Calista will shut off on its own.  Which is another feature that sets this hot air brush apart.

Overall, this particular hot air brush is probably the best money can buy.  However, because of that, it is quite a bit more expensive than the rest.
